April is a purebred LaMancha. She is crazy as a bedbug. In spite of that, or maybe because of it, she is one of our favorites. She was the first goat born here and has developed into a beautiful doe.
When April thinks she is in charge of things, she is a terrible bully: she will spend all her time terrorizing the other goats to make sure no one comes near "her" food. She boxes out like Wilt Chamberlain, using her whole big body; she can easily keep four or five goats at a time away from the feeder. However, when she realizes that someone else is in charge - Brandy, Winnie, Penrose and Stacy all outrank her - she is a big coward. She is afraid to come within ten feet of Brandy; all it takes is a sideways look from the herdqueen to send April scurrying off at top speed, even though she must be at least twenty pounds heavier.
Well, that's the way it goes - live by the sword and scurry by the sword. The odd thing is (since temperament seems to be so heritable in goats) that April invariably has really sweet, beautiful kids. None of her kids has ever been a bully. Go figure. Maybe she was just too spoiled as a baby. Her brother - he was jet black and she was pure white when they were born - is just the opposite. Mr. Mellow.
April is a big, long-bodied doe with a beautiful head, strong legs and feet, and overall excellent conformation. April had two very pretty buck kids this year, Gus and Stuckey.
